I signed up, and paid for, 6 months of additional space/deep linking on Feb. 26--my PayPal acc't shows the transaction completed that day. I am still getting a "data invalid" notice when I try to see if my files are active. I realize it takes a few days for the account to be activated--but when can i expect this to happen?

thanks, Scott

I have no idea what you mean by 'data invalid', and your account is fully active, and has been for quite some time (since the 26th).

Please provide details as to what you are doing, and where this message is coming from.

OK, sorry if I was unclear.

My original .mp3 files play fine. My Windows Media Player seems fine with any other files. But when I try to listen to the files here that I have recently posted, right after the Windows Media Player comes up, I get an error message saying "The Data is Invalid." Since this is the only place it's happening, and it started right after I upgraded my account, I assumed they were related.

Any thoughts? should I delete and repost the files?

thanks.

It's quite possible that the files didn't get encoded properly, as I've seen that message from windows media when it can't read the file format.

Try re-encoding with an encoder such as LAME, which is typically more widely compatible, and if you intend to stream, use CBR as apposed to VBR, which windows often has issues with.

Oh yes, and use the UPDATE feature, do not delete/re-upload, or it's going to have filename conflicts.

Thanks for the replies, although I am using the same encoder I've used always here, and my Media Player plays the files just fine from where they sit on my hard drive...

But I'll go ahead and update them to see what happens....

I'm sure if you downloaded them, and played them back they'd be fine as well, but on NWR, when you click on the stream links (always on lo-fi, and only on hi-fi if you don't have 'allow all download' on), they are being played via. Windows Media Services, and actually being 'streamed' as apposed to DLAPB (download and play back) which most other sites use, therefor some encoded formats do not function, as they don't follow the actual mp3 guidelines.

Also note, that the 'choose player' option must be set to Windows Media in order for it to function.  Windows Media may be set on your machine to play M3U type lists, but will not play the protected stream format we use for non-windows players, hence the choose player system.

Waldo, thanks. It was as simple as "Choose Player." Which had somehow got de-chosen on my system...

sorry to trouble you and thanks again for the prompt and thorough help.
