:( :(

I would first like to let everyone involved know that I love the concept of this site and would really be able to get excited about it.
                                BUT>>>

The last few times I have visited nwr, I haven't seen the previous annoying pop-ups.This time I am getting an install screen for "Gator".
As many of you already know,Gator is a very proprietary
advertising tool that claims it will "speed up" your internet connection.
The problem is, when it installs, it also installs other software under different names. So if you aren't an experienced user, you may never completely get rid of this virus-like program.
As a computer tech, a good portion of my repair work involves removing "sticky"software like Gator for unwitting victims.
As a musician the appearance of Gator on this site makes me hesitant to send new computer users to Nowhere radio.I don't need people coming to me saying that the site I sent them to screwed up their computer.
In conclusion. The pop-ups were annoying, but Gator is far, far, worse.I can't and won't endorse any site that is involved with Gator. Please  get rid of it so we can all freely recommend this site to our friends and not have to worry about aggressive, software based advertising. :( :(

Download a free POP-UP killer....

Waldo's gotta pay for this awesome site somehow, and POP-UP's help finance do exactly that

Panicware has a good free POP-UP killer, and very simple and quick to set-up....

Your supposed to know that, your a tech *LOL*

As I stated on the first post, I've contacted the company and asked them to remove the ad.

Problem with having a company do ad sales for you is that you have no end-control on what they choose to use, after all, they get 50% of the profits.

I'm looking into alternative companies however, as this is not the first issue I've had with them.

I have just recieved word from the ad company that they have banned the 'Gator' campaign from my account, this means it should no longer appear.

They will be 'responding to my e-mail' later, but left me a quick note saying they are working on a resolution for this pop-up slaughter.

Great to hear that Gator is gone.I haven't seen it in a couple of days now.

A:The whole point of pop-ups is that people see them.If we all kill pop-ups for an extended period of time the sponsors will have to find alternate means of advertising or just not sponsor this site.
How are nice guys like Waldo supposed to maintain their sites without sponors?

B:My whole problem with Gator is that it runs in the background as adware and for people with older computers this can slow you down or cause a crash.
This is not just a pop-up,this is a program.Running a pop-up killer all the time could cause the same thing.

In summary Voxvendor. You say that Waldo has to pay for this site with pop-ups, then you say kill-em.Do you think the sponsors will stick around forever without anyone seeing their adds?

PS
I also run Zone alarm and I have had the gator install screen pop up many times.

Anything that runs in the background will drain the resources of your computer and slow you down.

As for "You should know that ,you are a tech."

Come on voxvendor, we are all independant musicians here trying to make a go of it.If you check in the "General" forum you will see that I posted a link to help people uninstall Gator the same day as the post you are referring to.
Maybe you should read a little closer before you start putting people down.
I WAS TRYING TO HELP.

Please play your little "Lets start a flame war" game somewhere else.We all want to make music.

Peace Dude,

*LOL*

It was a joke....  and very clearly so was my post about starting a flame war...

You may have noticed that Im a moderator in a few forums here, and I do that because I want to help Waldo with his wonderful site, and in return, Waldo is allowing me to be a close part of the magic here...

Anyways.. being a moderator here, the last thing I would want to be part of is a "real" flame war....

I was joking... When I said.. "Your supposed to know that, your a tech"...........I meant it lightly, and I even posted  *laugh out loud* beside it to exclaim, my having fun at the time..

If you were offended, sorry... but I think it's obvious that was not my intention...

I was just being goofy me... ;)

Cheers Bro!

Heatho...

Just to clear this up....  I have no Pop-up killer's on my extensive network that I run at work..... I spend many an hour on this site at work.... and I encounter a good amount of pop-ups.... Amongst checking them out, and clicking banners, everytime I think of it, I try and help Waldo as much as possible with the advertising thing....

I have a young family, and at home, my Online time is limited and I don't have time to be closing down pop ups all the time.  My suggesting of the POP up killer at the time, was because it sounded like you weren't gonna hang around here because of them...

I rather see someone come on the site with a pop up killer, than not coming on at all....  We need all the action we can get here... ;D

Anyways... once again.. my intentions were not bad ones...I was not suggesting that Waldos advertising is invalid... heck, Im gonna be advertising here very soon....  Im the LAST person to downtalk advertising...

Man, I spend more  time apoligizing online than I ever do in real life...*LOL*

Thats the problem with on line communication.... there is no tone of voice and there is no facial expression....

If you were here, you would have seen me telling you that stuff in a kind friendly way, with a smile on my face, as that was the mindset I was in when I typed it..

Sorry if you were offended..

Suppose I could maybe have a little less caffeine in my diet.I thought about my post today and realized that I probably came on a little strong.I have had a real hate on for adware for a while. And we all hate flaming.
If I have offended anyone I also apologize.Nowhere is one of the coolest things I have found in a while.

Nothing personal Voxvendor .

By the way, I checked out your music. You rock (Literally).

Thanks for the compliment.. and no hard feelings bud..

The internet is a funny world and it's so easy for us to misscomunicate with each other..

I share your dislikes for Agressive Advertising...

Especially on those dirty sites (The ones I NEVER go on  ;))

Where you get like 10 pop ups and every time you hit the x to close, another one opens...

I would like to strangle the xxxx who puts them ads out.......

Post me a link to your stuff Heatho, Im interested...
