I'm sorry, I know you have probably thought of this already, but I'm bored and looking for some interesting BBS (slow day).  I haven't poked around on the site too much so you might already have this, but..

...how about merchendise?  T-shirts, caps, bumper stickers.  Even if you only make a small profit it's great advertising.  As an artist, I wouldn't mind having some way to advertise where I post my songs (other than a link on a website), so I wouldn't mind paying a few bucks for a cap or shirt.  While I'm ordering a shirt I would pay an extra buck for a bumper sticker.  Guitar case can always use another one.

The shirts are there ;)  Plans are for other merch as well.  Check it out in the 'site news' section, under 'pre order shirt'

Any chance of offering a CD reproduction service like mp3.com had?  (they'd reproduce the CD with both wave and mp3 files and send it to the customer.)

You could make money off of every sale, and you'd be providing a great service for all us indie types who can't afford a full run of CDs....

Please, please, pretty please?????

Uh, we've already had that for years...

Production is currently on hold though, but it's there.

'ODCD' or "On Demand CD Distribution"

Cool.  I went and found the blurb for it.   I totally missed it before!  :-[

So is it suspended indefinitely like the new artist sign-up?  I realize you don't know exactly when it'll be brought back, but do you think it'll be weeks, months, years?

Will it help if I go to the NWR store and buy stuff?  :)

Maybe we could ask all of the artists to go buy one thing from the store to support the site.....

I still have some t-shirts left from the last fund-raiser, we're not far off fiscally from the 'next step', although, if I had a few grand I'd be able to focus on it, instead of having to do other jobs to stay afloat.

Basically, I'm looking at finishing off the NWR4 release (coming in a few months, if all goes well) first.  I may turn the ODCD back on at that time, otherwise, we might have to wait until I have the equiptment needed to do it 'in house'.

We'll need to raise a couple grand to do 'in house' production, as opposed to using a third-party to do the CDs right now.

Okay, I've mulled this over for some time now (a couple of hours), and here's what I've come up with:

I didn't know about the t-shirt thing because although I've been a part of this site for over a year I had never checked into the community area until recently (when I had trouble figuring out how to find the 'deeplink' urls).

With that in mind, here's my proposal:

Would you consider it inappropriate  to promote NWR by having a button on every page that linked to a "Buy a T-shirt to show your support" page?  It's not an advertisement really -- just a reality check on what it takes to maintain a service like NWR provides.   I know that I would have bought a t-shirt much sooner if I'd been aware that it was available.  (I do plan to buy more.)

One benefit of a link on every page would be that non-artists would also be aware of, and have the opportunity to show their support for the site.  (And there's a lot of non-artists out there!)

(Now if you tell me there's already a button that does that I'll just quietly stagger to the corner and faint, 'cause I swear ain't seen one!)

I think it's worth a shot....

On the artists admin main page, there is a donation button, and I did send out three e-mails to members with info regarding it as well.  I figured it was enough.

I might put up a banner when I release NWR4 with a little more info, I'm just not sure if I'm going to have any more shirts done up, as they are pretty expensive in low numbers, and I lost money on this run....  We'll have to see.

Waldo,

What about something along the lines of Google Adwords?

Waldo,

Do you mind if I ask how lucrative those have been?

Not very so far, about $10 a month. Only get paid for clicks, and there ain't many clicks in a day...
