hello
if any1 can help me i would be eternally greatfull....
PLEEEEEEEZE..
ok basically
when i make a MIDI song in CAKEWALK I usually record parts in SOUNDFORGE [remote record then play the track] to add chorus and Fx.
[eg.. record the piano track and ad some flange or whatever]
BUT
since today...whenever I press RECORD in soundforge it will only record from the mic, regardless of if the mic plugged in or not...
SO NOW I CAN ONLY RECORD IN SOUNDFORGE FROM THE MIC [line in].. which is a disaster. Im sure there is some setting that has been changed but I cant get it sorted :-[
what I want is soundforge to record whatever comes out the speakers..like it used to..
I recently installed some new software [buzz] but I doubt this has interfered and I havent changed any settings in my system or software....
thank you any1 in advance
There's a chance it's your windows sound system settings. Go to the speaker icon in the lower right hand corner of your desktop (next to the time), right click on it and select 'open volume controls'.
Then choose 'options' on the window that comes up, followed by 'properties', change 'adjust volume for' to 'recording' on the sound card in question (choose from 'mixer device'), make sure the appropriate controls are selected in the box below and hit okay.
Then check which is 'selected' or which ones are 'muted', and make sure the one you want is enabled. In this case, it sounds like your machine has a midi loop back, or a 'synth' loop back, possibly even a general 'output' loopback, make sure that's enabled.
Could be your SF settings as well, but I'd hit a forum specific to that software for such help, like recordingproject.com or homerecording.com

many thanks waldo for the advice
im afraid i still cant get it sorted its so frustrating coz i wanna "wav up" my cakewalk synths...
oddly enough, in the system sound options, synth appears in the play section but not in the record section...
i have this nasty feeling that when i installed "buzz" it somehow set itself to be the default recorder for synth..or something :-[
its driving me nuts
ill check out those sites.. i have a feeling this is gona take a while arghh
stoopid computers
i might uninstall "buzz" its rubbish anyway and im gettin more "real" software soon..
cheers yall- any1 else any ideas feel free 2post :)
i did a system restore and now i can record my synths but not my mic..
but i dont need my mic.. cheers guys :)
ok its hppened again and i just cannot do another system restore after all the software and drivers ive recently installed...
somebody please help meee!
in the windows sound properties recording section with the "mixer device", SYNTH AND WAVE ARE NOT THERE- THEY ARE NOT EVEN THERE TO BE SELECTED.. THIS IS MESSED UP...
anyways its driving me nutty as stupid cakewalk 9 doesnt have the option of saving as wav or mp3.... how sucky..
pleeease sum1 help me
even if it is a way i can convert .wrks to wavs.. or summing..
If they aren't there, then it's your drivers fault. Most sound cards don't have that feature, and most drivers don't anyways, only place to look is right where I told you to make sure they are selected in the 'properties' window under 'show following volume controls' after recording is selected.
I'd contact the manufacturer of your card if they don't appear and they are supposed to.

I got it sorted.. something pretty simple- which is always the way with windows isnt it!
