Title: Avant Garde
Post by: BarryGriffin on September 21, 2002, 12:56:07 AM
Hi everyone.

This is my first attempt at something this experimental. The themes is simple - a ship has found itself in a storm and struggles to stay afloat until it's eventually swallowed up by the sea.

Please let me know what you think -

Thanks,

Indeed, I really might consider changing the genre of this, it is certainly not classical.  Although, it would be really difficult to categorize in anything other than possibly ambient noise?

Thanks for the positive replies, guys. ;)

>>it is certainly not classical

Is Avant Garde ( John Cage + Glenn Branca etc ) a subset of Classical music? I thought that perhaps it was, and thats why I placed it in the classical section. On soundclick I put it in the Experimental Chart (part of Alternative). Its in 1525th position of 1525 entries for Alternative as a whole. Its in 135th position out of 135 for the Experimental Section. So you can make your own mind up on that... :-[

Possibly a subset of neo-classical, but generally refers to a standard set of instruments.  Since the instrumentation used in this piece sounds anything but standard, it could be an adaptation, but more geared to the experimental side.

P.S., don't take charts seriously, they really don't mean much other than how many people you were able to get to listen.  It's a popularity contest really, not a judge of quality.
