Title: Down loading songs
Post by: Wondercow on April 23, 2002, 04:49:42 PM
Hey all, I have a friend that I want to collaborate with on a couple of songs. When I tried to burn his song on a cd so I could carry it back to my studio to work on it, it wouldn't let me 'cause of the streaming format. I read here that an artist had to allow that so I thought that was the problem but I do allow that with my songs and when I went to my songs, I STILL couldn't get it in mp3 format. What gives? ??? ::)

Not sure what is happening on your end, but all songs are submitted in mp3 format, and are downloadable in mp3 format.

If you click on the download button, and save it to your hard-drive, it is in the same format it was uploaded in.

The 'streaming' however is a totally different story.

All I can say is make sure you are downloading, and not streaming the file.

If that's still not working for you, give me more details, as in what errors you are specifically getting, etc., screen-shots of the whole procedure help as well.

I did save it to hard drive, but it shows as a m3u file whatever that is. The button on the far right says download for members only (that's me) but on samji's songs all it does is go to quicktime player and plays it; it doesn't seem to download. Hmmm should I right click on it? I'll try that. But what is a M3u file? My burner says (nero software) that's a format it doesn't recognize.
   Curiouser and curiouser.  :-/

                                                                   Right click
                                                                   Right click  ::)
I got it, thanks Waldo  ;D

Yeah, it sounds like your mime-types are over-ridden by Quick-Time.

What this means is that you have Quick-Time associated to mp3 files, so whenever one is called in an inline document, it downloads to a temp directory and starts playing in QT.  Remove any association with mp3's or fix the windows association so that it doesn't automatically open on download, and you won't have to right-click/save on download.

P.S., it says 'members only download, must be logged in' and will not let you download when you are not logged in.   Look in the top right corner to see if you are logged in or not.  Don't use the playback icons to download, as some are protected and you cannot download from them.
