Title: Music Stream file not found
Post by: gbacklin on May 01, 2003, 02:21:45 PM
Hello,

Whenever I try to play any of my music from a windows machine, the associated *.asx file is not found. This happens to all of my songs.

Thank you,
Gene

Check the FAQ, sounds like you have an association issue.

The association is ok because I can play other artists music. Just none of mine. Windows media player comes up and then an error stating that the file was not found. The original mp3 is there because I can download it.

Thank you,
Gene

Not all songs are configured the same way.  For example, if you have 'allow all download' enabled, then NWR uses the DLAPB method to play back.  If you do not, then it uses WMS to stream.  If your player is improperly configured for WMS, then one will work, and the other will not.  Try playing a track from an artist who has configured theirs the same way as you.

Could also bad MP3 encode.  Try encoding with a good codec, such as LAME, then re-uploading.  WMP doesn't stream very many forms of MP3's properly.

Hi,

I have placed the same mp3's on another music site and it streams just fine.

Here is the WMP error message:

The path to the file is not valid
Error ID = 0x80070002, Remedy ID = 0x00000000
Windows Media Player cannot find the path to the file. Probable causes for this error include: the server name, shared directory name, or file name has been misspelled or has changed.

Check the file name and path for errors. If this error persists, contact your network administrator for the correct location of the file you want to play.

Thank you,
Gene

'other' music sites don't use streaming, they just use DLAPB.

Please read the above.
